Okay, so here's the thing. Every month I make a compilation mixtape with songs that were released or songs that I loved during that month, so that I can forever remember when stuff happened. I, being a genius, aptly name them "The [insert month here] Playlist".I finished The February Playlist on March 1st, but only managed to put it on a disc on Friday. 1/. 'Whip My Hair' - Skull Tape.
Question: What's better than a catchy song with an exciting, new [if not slightly basic] dance routine included, sang by the pre-teen daughter of a couple of world-famous actors? Answer: That very same song covered by a "heavy" rock band who have probably never even seen a Will Smith film.

2/. 'Band On The Run' - Paul McCartney & Wings.
My dad got me the remastered edition of 'Band On The Run' for my birthday and it made my day. And if you didn't already know, I love McCartney.

3/. 'Boyfriend' - Best Coast.
Evidently, I was late getting into the "summer sound of 2010", but who cares? Best Coast are a mixture of infectious tunes, catchy lyrics and upbeat cuteness, except with a certain edge that I just can't put my finger on.

4/. 'Kyrie Eleison' - Lord Of The Flies OST.
Right, so this is a weird one. It's basically a stupidly catchy song from one of the oldest movies I've ever watched. My English class are odd, is all I'm saying.

5/. 'Get Some' - Lykke Li.
Remember her from 2008? No? Well, you didn't miss much. She's Swedish, she's gorgeous and now she's actually really good. This song is danceable and pretty damn raunchy for somebody who used to be played in the emotional scenes of Grey's Anatomy.

6/. 'All Die Young' - Smith Westerns.
I'll be honest with you - I know absolutely nothing about this band, except that this song is amazing. It's emotional, and I like that. Because I'm a woman... or something. It was a free download on the NME website, so check it out.

7/. 'The Ballad Of Mona Lisa' - Panic! At The Disco.
It's Panic At The Disco! Wait, no it isn't. It's half of Panic At The Disco, with the exclamation mark brought back! Well, I've always been a fan and that hasn't changed after hearing this song. They've gone back to the style they originally had, but in a slightly more careful, mature way. It's pretty good, if you like that kind of thing.

8/. 'I've Just Seen A Face' - The Beatles.
Valentine's Day was in February, y'know? Ah, you probably weren't celebrating, like me. I was waiting for McCartney to throw stones at my window and serenade me this song from my garden. Oh well, there's always next year.

Another band I seem to have ignored when they were successful, Local Natives have a tranquility to their music, whilst still being interesting. This song came on my iPod one day and I realised just how beautiful it was. Now I'll never forget.

13/. 'Young Blood' - The Naked & Famous.
Wow, a decent band from New Zealand - I was genuinely a little shocked when I first heard. But they are actually a pretty good band, despite everything on their album sounding very... similar. Either way, this song is reeeeally good: upbeat, fun and containing plenty of "yeah"s - just what you'd expect from a band from the other side of the planet!

14/. 'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out' - The Smiths.
"And if a double decker bus crashes into us, to die by your side is such a heavenly way to die."
It's one of the most beautiful lines from a song ever, in my opinion, and it's become my quote for the month.

16/. 'Get Low' - Lil Jon.
This was the highlight of my birthday party: It was right at the end and people were just starting to leave, so I put this on and starting dancing a routine that a friend and I had invented the night before. Teaching a bunch of intoxicated teenagers how to do 'The Dictator' was oh so satisfying :']

17/. 'Plastic Man' - The Kinks.
There are endless reasons to explain why I love The Kinks. The reason I love this song is because it's bloody hilarious, and I appreciate a band who can write some of the most lyrically and melodically beautiful songs of all time, yet whack out a song about a man who "likes plastic cups and saucers 'cos they never break; and he likes to lick his gravy off a plastic plate." Classic.
18/. 'Show Me The Light' - Mystery Jets.
I absolutely adore Mystery Jets, and have from the moment that I heard 'Young Love' right up until this point. I will probably always adore Mystery Jets, but who knows? This song gives me shivers, because it gives me hope. It sounds horrendously pathetic, but it's true.

"Don't even talk to me about Arcade Fire. They're one of the most overrated bands ever. After Oasis, of course." That was me in January. How things change - not about Oasis, I'm not a savage - I gave 'The Suburbs' a listen and fell in love. So here we are, their latest release. I'm sure you'll love it; everybody does.
